Changes are afoot. Literally tiny feet. Many of you know Rey, my partner of 4 years. She helped build this business. We worked side-by-side when Folks Farm originally sprouted on its first acre. Rey has poured an immense amount of love and energy into the farm and is hugely responsible for what it has become. In truth, I cannot imagine doing what I do without her.
Rey stepped away from the day to day work of the farm in past years pursuing a masters degree in Somatic Psychology. School has taken precedence, and from my perspective she is a very talented psychotherapist. It comes with many emotions to say she is taking time off from school after this semester.
We are expecting a new addition to our family come September/October, a little us. There are a lot of questions but we are trusting the process and doing everything we can to provide a healthy life for a new family.
Rey and I are preparing to make compromises moving forward as our life course has changed. Our communication and willingness to show up for one another will grow as we are now responsible for a third. We are very fortunate to lead the lives we do and I have no doubts that we foster a great life for a little one.
How will this affect the farm? My time will be less focused on work, especially in the first few months of fall. She is due in October just as the growing season will be winding down. It is clear to me that building a strong team has never been more important. Luckily, we have an amazing crew this year. We just need to get through the rigors of planting to enjoy the uplifting harvests to come.
I have always strived to make the farm business one that can provide year-round income. Investments in protected growing spaces, scalability in seed production, and storage crop production remain crucial elements in this long-term plan. Now, realizing I cannot throw myself head-first into work, these goals gain more clarity.
This is a very special season and I am so glad we have you along for the ride!
