It has been a while. Where has Farmer’s Notes been? Grinding.
Getting lost in the day to day. Head down, laser focus, wheels spinning pulling together ingredients of a farm business.
Spring is a time of heightened anxiety for me. Multiple times daily checking the weather, wondering if the windows of planting will line up or freeze. Sowings in the greenhouses, estimating the number of plants needed. Checking heaters, double checking thermostats, triple checking doors. Are the propane tanks full? Call the propane company. One slip now and there goes months of work.
Are we selling enough CSA shares? Pack more seeds, send more orders, plant more microgreens, order part, have enough energy to make dinner, bath time, bed.
It’s enough to make my head spin.
Then, step away. I am fortunate to have such a great family and crew to support me getting out of town.
Pick that head up, remove the mind from the endless churning of work. Broaden the gaze. Unplug.
Breath. Again, breath.
Return refreshed. Focus broadened. Witness the surrounding world unfurl from the clutches of winter. Be. A part of the life cycle becoming awakened.
Yes, the worries will return. Yes, times will be tough again. Times come and go. Patience and stamina will see me through. Trust.
More coming soon, just needed to get this off my chest so the tank can drain.
Thank you.
